Google: Dawn of a New Age
Google is the most successful internet based corporation of our time and it also turned out to be one of the most successful companies of all time. It is market cap is 197 billion dollars and its enterprise value is 165 billion dollars. As mentioned above Google offers almost all of its services without any fee, excluding the some minor professional services which does not cover significant amount of place in their income portfolio.
Google is mostly known for its search engine; however the company offers a wide range of different products including e-mail, operating systems, office applications and many more. In such a business model like Google's, you need to collect information as much as you can to be considered successful.
Google most likely has the biggest compiled source of information of history in their hands. This pile of information consists of different elements like search results, e-mails, instant messenger logs, browser records, academic articles and daily news. Google even has a project to have a digital copy of almost every book printed under the title of Google Books. Having such huge information from many different areas brings up a very important question: What Google does with all that information? This issue created a big controversy and it is still an issue of debate.
Huge Source of Information
This huge source of information Google has provides the company an enormous amount of power. They practically can trace every internet activity of the users who prefers to use its services. They have access to the users search queries, the content of e-mails and instant messages, which web sites user visited and probably more. Most likely they know their users much better than the family members of those users. I preferred to use the word 'most likely' intentionally, because users never know how much information Google has about them. These are the only ones that are announced and Google might be collecting more information silently in many different areas too.
We know Google has the knowledge about its users and users do not really know much about them and their working dynamics. They are openly watching the internet actions of its users and they might be watching covertly in different areas too. Google acts as an almost divine power which watches the users all the time, or at least might be watching.
