Diablo 3: Monk Class
The Monk was without doubt the class most people eagerly waited for. Those who were looking for a different taste after Diablo 2 sought out this exotic martial artist as soon as Diablo 3 came out. And with the unique features it possesses, Monk definitely offers a challenging and satisfying game play experience.
Hailing from the mysterious monastery located in Ivgorod, they are very well trained in mind, body and spirit, and said to know 1001 ways to kill an enemy. They can channel a kind of power only available to them: Spirit. This infinite source is generated through several means and can be used to execute fatal moves as the Monk grows in skill. Monks are melee warriors who use unarmed attacks or light weapons. They don't rely on ranged weapons however they can launch attacks so swift and instantaneously, in some ways they can be the "projectile" themselves, sometimes dashing on their target, sometimes even teleporting and landing a deadly blow in the blink of an eye.
Generally, while playing with the Monk class, a smart combination of its protective and offensive skills are recommended. The Monks have several effective crowd control skills and disabling attacks as well as an array of shielding/healing features. Their damage output is naturally high, and it can be increased drastically as the character unlocks new runes. The Monks's Spirit is generated through their primary (fist) attacks.
One can choose from 4 different Spirit Generating attacks, each with its own practical use and a set of runes to further enhance their destructive force. Some are excellent for pulverizing the enemy with very rapid series of punches while some are useful in handling large numbers by destroying them en masse. But since skill changes in the middle of a combat is greatly discouraged in Diablo 3, the players must preset their builds as a good combination of area-effect attacks and single-target attacks carefully. Greater the area of effect is, the slower the rate of attack will be, and vice versa. Keep in mind that attack speed is crucial element for a Monk since it determines the rate at which your Spirit will be regenerated.
The Monks have other light to medium area damage skills other than their primary attacks, making mass killing convenient. But these abilities either consume large amounts of Spirit or have long cool-down durations. So they must be saved for the right moment, which will turn the tide of a combat.
