God of War: Ascension
God of War is the greatest exclusive game series both for Playstation 2 and Playstation 3. Sony recently announced that whole God of War series sold more than 21 million copies to date. The latest game in the franchise, God of War 3, has sold over five million copies and became the best selling game of the franchise. After this spectacular sale figures, there is no doubt that God of War is one of the strongest game series in video games history.
Since Playstation 3 is getting close to end of its life cycle, very few people were expecting to see a new addition to God of War franchise on PS3. The expected thing for Sony to keep next entry in God of War series exclusive for their next console, Playstation 4. However Sony did something surprising and announced that a new God of War game is in production for Playstation 4. This unexpected announcement surprised whole gaming scene.
The new game is called "God of War: Ascension". The game is not a sequel to God of War 3. Actually it is a prequel which will tell the unknown past of Kratos. The game will show us how Kratos became Ghost of Sparta and how he had been like before he was God of War. The game will be the first game in the series if we look from a chronological point of view.
Kratos will be seeking for revenge like other installments in the franchise. In the game, Kratos will try to escape from the shadows of past and set free from burden of his sins. Sony officially revealed that the game will take place six months after Kratos' murder of his wife and child. The scope of the story will be much more personal and intense. Players will have the chance to live events which changed the life of Kratos and which turned him into the man he is today. It has been confirmed that during the game players will have the chance to use Blades of Chaos.
It has been revealed that the game will contain the game play elements which made God of War series famous. However this doesn't mean that there will be some improvements. Developer studio, SCE Santa Monica, claims that the combat system will be revamped and will be made much user friendly. The game will also include redesigned mini games which will be a nice addition over previous installments in God of War series.
SCE Santa Monica also promises for better graphics and visuals for the game. Considering the high quality standards they achieved in the previous games in the series and the age of PS3, this claim looked a little bit doubtful at first. However during game's presentation at E3 2012, it has been proved that their claims are completely true. Game play footage showed that the visuals of the game are much better than any previous God of War games, including God of War 3. The improved character models and dynamic lighting enabled the creation of very impressive game graphics.
Multiplayer part is another important part of the game that is worth to mention. God of War: Ascension is the first game in the series. The game supports multiplayer for up to eight players at once. The players will control champions under the rule of one of four deities: Zeus, Hades, Ares and Poseidon. Each deity will provide different sets of skills and weapons to players.
It has been announced that the game will be released at March 2013, for Playstation 3 exclusively.
